John E. Manning and his wife, Donna, have been residents of Cape Coral, Florida for more than 30 years where they raised two daughters, Sarah and Melissa. He has more than 19 years of public service experience. John E. Manning received a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University in Boston.
He is an experienced and proven leader having served as a Lee County Commissioner from 1988 to 2000 and was elected in 2010 to the County Commission to fill the vacancy due to the death of Commissioner Bob Janes. He also served as a city council member for Cape Coral from 1982 to 1986 and as a consultant with the Fort Myers Office of Malcolm Pirnie since 2000. Previously, he was a corporate benefit consultant for 28 years with both public and private sector clients.
Commissioner Manning was elected by his colleagues to serve as Vice Chairman of the Lee County Board of County Commissioners and the Lee County Port Authority. He serves as Board Liaison to the Horizon Council, Public Safety Coordinating Council, and Local Coordinating Board for Transportation Disadvantaged and also serves on the Lee County MPO. As a Past President of the Florida Association Counties (FAC), he has been appointed to serve on the Growth Management Select Committee and as a Trustee of the Florida Local Government Investment Trust (FLGIT). He was recently appointed by his colleagues to the Board of Directors for the Transportation and Expressway Authority Membership of Florida (TEAMFL).
John E. Manning’s leadership provides the Lee County Board of County Commissioners with a new direction for the future while seeking common ground on important county-wide and regional issues.
